Call for articles for InterRidge News 2012
The InterRidge Office is calling for articles to be included in this year's InterRidge News, Vol. 21, published in November 2012, and we would very much like to hear from contributors. Suitable material includes preliminary results of research related to ridges, back-arc basins and ophiolites. Also, we are looking for general articles on shipboard or immediate post-cruise results, new equipment, opinion articles and workshops reports. In particular, we would want you to supply 1-4 high resolution images with any article (minimum pixel width = 1000).

Photographic identification guide to larvae at hydrothermal vents
We would like to announce the publication of a “Photographic Identification Guide to Larvae at Hydrothermal Vents,” available online at: http://www.whoi.edu/vent-larval-id/, as a PDF (click for high resolution 30 MB, or low resolution 3 MB), or by request as a hard copy. The purpose of the guide is to assist researchers in the identification of larvae of benthic invertebrates at hydrothermal vents.

Scientific questions and recommendations from the InterRidge Seafloor Mineralization Working Group
The InterRidge Working Group on Seafloor Mineralization (SMWG) has developed three groups of questions and recommendations to advance the scientific knowledge of seafloor massive sulfide (SMS) deposits:
What are the spatial controls on hydrothermal activity and SMS deposition?
What are the timescales for the evolution of SMS deposits?
What are the changes in biological communities that occur during the evolution of an SMS deposit?
Recommendations range from developing a list of criteria to quantify the extent of activity at a hydrothermal vent site, to using cutting‐edge technology to locate and characterize inactive deposits, to encouraging biological studies of inactive and extinct SMS deposits.
